These sterling silver handled tools were necessary parts of any 19th century grooming set. The nail groomer has a steel file with a curved end point. The handle has a finely etched monogram in H, and the handle is marked sterling. There are no other hallmarks on this piece, and probably dates to 1875-1900. It measures 6 5/8" long and 7/8" at it's widest point. The handle is not quite 1/2" deep.
The Buttonhook has a plain, smooth handle that has two small dents in the end of the handle. It is hallmarked (see inset) to indicate it is British sterling made in the city of Birmingham. The date stamp is difficult to see, but it looks like an "E" indicating 1828. It measures 7" long with the handle being 5/8" wide and almost 3/8" deep. There is another hallmark near the beading that also is stamped "sterling" and "55", along with the British hallmarks.
Both pieces are offered together although they are not a matched set.
